- The flock renews itself. Dual-purpose breeds are true breeds. Their chicks are the same breed with the same traits, so you can hatch replacements instead of repurchasing. Commercial hybrids cannot do this — the cross is not reproducible at home. This is the single biggest structural argument for the group.
- The bird has a second life. A spent layer hybrid is a small carcass. A spent dual-purpose hen is dinner. Cockerels you did not plan for become meat rather than a problem.
- They tolerate an imperfect system. A high-output hybrid has no slack: miss the ration and production stops. Dual-purpose birds forage, handle irregularity better, and generally behave like farm animals rather than instruments.
